Review Process

NB: Please be sure that your browser is set to accept cookies. Our tracking system requires cookies for proper operation. (If you have Windows XP the defaults will need changing.)

The manuscript submission and peer review process is broken down into the following 6 steps:

  1. The Author submits a manuscript.
  2. The Editorial Office Quality Check the submission
  3. The staff assign either the EIC or AE to the manuscript.
  4. The EIC/Associate Editor assigns Referees to the manuscript.
  5. The Referees review the manuscript.
  6. The Associate Editor makes a recommendation.
  7. The Editor in Chief makes a decision and informs the author.

As a Referees, you are responsible for step #5. Experimental & Molecular Medicine prides itself on its rapid review times. We would be grateful to receive your report within 2 weeks original receipt of the files. Should you require additional time, please advise us by email at ksbmb3@ksbmb.or.kr.

Navigating the System

When you first log into the system, you will be taken to your "Home" page. Firstly, we would ask if you could update your profile with your current contact details and any other relevant information. This will greatly assist us when thanking referees for their work at the end of the year.

To do this you will need to select Modify Profile/Password. At the top of your profile you will see your username. Log out of the system and the select Unknown/Forgotten password? Input your user name and the system will email you a new password. When you receive the password, you will be able to access your home page and update your profile.

Your home page will have different categories of tasks. If you are required to perform a pending action item, there will be a red arrow next to a manuscript link. After clicking on this link, you will be presented with a "Manuscript" screen containing:

  • Detailed Information about a specific manuscript.
  • Links to the manuscript and associated figures/images.
  • A list of "Manuscript Tasks" or links allowing you to:
    • Accept/Decline Reviewer Position.
    • Check Status
    • Review Manuscript
(Not all links will be present all the time. Only the applicable links will be visible.)

If there are no red arrows visible on the "Home" page, then you are finished.

Review Manuscript

After logging into the system, pressing on a manuscript link preceded by a red arrow, you will be presented with a "Manuscript" screen as described above. At the bottom of this screen under "Manuscript Tasks" will be displayed a "Review Manuscript" link. Clicking on this link will display the "Review Manuscript" Screen. This screen is broken into 5 parts as follows:

  1. Manuscript background information.
  2. A review pop-down selection.
  3. A dataset recommendation drop-down.
  4. Remarks to the author.
  5. Remarks to the editor.

If you prefer to work offline, you may find it quickest to download and print the PDF file, draft your review remarks using your favourite word processor and cut/paste it back into the reviewer remarks text area on this screen.

Adobe Acrobat

We recommend that for accessing the PDF files, best results are achieved if you have access to Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0. Should you require installation of this FREE program, please download from the link here and follow the on-screen instructions. (We recommend that on completion of installation, you amend one of the default settings. Select: File - Preferences - General, and UNCHECK Web Browser Integration)
